The Best Cities for Bitcoin Runners
Not every city is built for people who want to stack sats and stack miles. The intersection of a thriving Bitcoin community, solid running infrastructure, and a general culture that rewards discipline over leisure is rarer than you might think. Here are the cities where our members have found the best combination of all three.
Miami, Florida
Miami is ground zero for Bitcoin in America. The annual Bitcoin conference draws thousands. Local businesses accept BTC. The political environment is friendly to digital assets. And the running? The Rickenbacker Causeway loop is one of the best urban running routes in the country. You get ocean views, a brutal bridge incline for hill work, and minimal traffic on weekend mornings.
Our Miami chapter is the oldest and largest. Saturday morning runs along Biscayne Bay followed by Cuban coffee and Bitcoin conversation. The heat and humidity make every run harder, which our members consider a feature, not a bug. If you can train through a Miami summer, you can do anything.
Austin, Texas
Austin has become the tech and Bitcoin capital of the South. The influx of builders from San Francisco and New York brought a density of talent that makes the city feel like a startup accelerator. The Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail offers a 10 mile loop that is flat, shaded, and crowded with fellow runners at any hour of the day.
The Austin chapter tends to attract more tech founders and developers. Post run conversations skew toward product development, AI tools, and open source Bitcoin projects. The city also hosts multiple Bitcoin meetups per week, so the community extends well beyond our Saturday runs.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico's Act 60 tax incentives attracted a wave of crypto entrepreneurs starting around 2017. By now, San Juan has a mature Bitcoin community with regular meetups, conferences, and a density of founders who are actively building. The running is spectacular. The Condado waterfront route, the Pinones bike trail through mangroves, and hill repeats in El Yunque for the truly ambitious.
San Juan is also where a lot of remote founders base themselves. The combination of tax efficiency, year round warm weather, and a small enough city that the Bitcoin community actually knows each other makes it ideal for runners who want to build both their business and their fitness in the same place.
Medellin, Colombia
Medellin is the wildcard on this list. It does not have the Bitcoin density of Miami or Austin. But what it does have is altitude (1,500 meters), incredible weather year round, and a cost of living that lets founders stretch their runway dramatically. The running community is passionate. There are organized runs through the Aburra Valley nearly every day of the week.
Several of our members spend 3 to 6 months per year in Medellin for altitude training. Running at 5,000 feet makes you significantly faster when you come back to sea level. The city also has a growing digital nomad and crypto community. You will not find as many Bitcoin ATMs as Miami, but you will find founders who are building real businesses with lower overhead and higher focus.
Honorable Mentions
Nashville is growing fast in both the Bitcoin and running categories. The Shelby Bottoms Greenway is an excellent trail system and the city has embraced crypto culture more than most mid size cities. Denver combines altitude training with a strong tech scene. Lisbon has a rapidly growing Bitcoin community and some of the most scenic urban running routes in Europe, though the hills are relentless.
The common thread across all of these cities is a culture that values building over consuming. Places where people wake up early, work on hard problems, and take their health seriously. That is the Satoshi Runners ethos, and it tends to cluster in the same geographies regardless of whether people formally join our community or not.
If you are in any of these cities and want to join a local chapter, or if you want to start one in a city we have not reached yet, reach out. We are always looking for new chapters in cities where the running is good and the signal to noise ratio on Bitcoin conversation is high.
